ZamPenBaSulTa Messaging Hub forwards help to Jolo fire victims

Early in February, a fire engulfed Tulay, Chinese pier and Takut-Takut areas in Jolo, Sulu displacing more than 2,000 families. Since then, various organizations and individuals within and outside the island, including the ZamPenBaSulTa Messaging Hub (Zamboanga, Zamboanga Peninsula, Basilan, Sulu and Tawi-Tawi), extended relief efforts to the fire victims.

Peace Promotion Fellow and Tausug League for Social Transformation (TLST) founder, Ayesha Warid led the coordination of the relief efforts with its host, the Integrated Resource Development for Tri-People (IRDT) based in Zamboanga City and other members of the hub. Among those who also immediately responded were members of the Western Mindanao State University Student Action Force (WMSU-SAF) Malangas Chapter, led by their adviser Dr. Christina Yambao. In-kind and monetary donations reached the fire victims in Jolo, Sulu.

“I thought this kind of collaboration is not possible but ZamPenBaSulTa Messaging Hub proved me wrong. You have made us realize (that) distance is not a hindrance to reach out and help the needy. Unity is possible for the sake of humanity. May we continue our engagement for future activities for peace and development,” Warid shared in her social media post.

The messaging hub is a platform for social movement composed of various networks working together for a unified cause. Warid added that she is thankful that the hub has provided a communication channel and has proven success for networking and collaboration.

The OURmindaNOW Messaging Hub is now composed of seven regional nodes (Northern Mindanao, Caraga, SOCSKSARGEN, Lanao, Davao, Cotabato, ZamPenBaSulTa) and two sub-regional nodes (Surigao and Basilan) across Mindanao.

The recently held OURmindaNOW Summit in Cagayan de Oro City gathered representatives from all the regional nodes established through the Messaging Hub Convergence, one of the main pocket events of the summit. The convergence discussed future activities of each messaging hub including adoption of advocacy campaigns, PTVE Toolkit and the Information Ecosystem.

Well that’s a smart move so that we can promote harmonious relationship in any given situations and every individual who belong to the less fortunate family be given much attention.
