NorthMin Messaging Hub launched in USTP

Last December 20, the Northern Mindanao messaging hub was launched at the University of Science and Technology of the Philippines (USTP) as part of EAI-PH’s mission to promote peace and respond to the alarming instances of violent extremism in Mindanao.

The launching was attended by the TWG members of the NorthMin regional node which included representatives from the Ateneo Diplomatic Corps, Ridge-to-Reef Young Leaders Inc., Xavier Science Foundation Inc., Xavier University, Center for University Research and Extension Office of CApitol University, Human Rights Youth Action Network, the National Youth Commission, JCI-KH, PYDO, and the host organization, USTP.

Prior to the launching, TWG members met to craft the three-year strategic action plan of the messaging hub and decided on the goal of increasing the resiliency of the youth in general (aged 12-35) through security awareness on various violent recruitment strategies and active engagement to community peacebuilding.

The NorthMin MH plans to achieve this goal with the following expected outcomes: Increase youth’s awareness, knowledge, skills, attitude and practice towards peace and non-violent behavior and linking the youth to be actively engaged in community peace building through the messaging hub.

The NorthMin MH is the 7th regional node to be launched following Cotabato, Soccsksargen (Central Mindanao), Lanao, Zamboanga, Basilan, and Davao. Two remaining messaging hubs in Caraga and Surigao will be launched in January.
