In 2022, EAI Philippines scaled up its fight against violent extremism, expanding the CS-LIFT Project (Communities and Schools Leading in the Fight Against Terrorism) to reach 1,094 students across 10 divisions in Mindanao. This impact was achieved through the innovative integration of a 12-lesson CS-LIFT toolkit into the existing Values Education curriculum for Grade 10 students. CS-LIFT Project: An Educational Curriculum to Counter Violent Extremism in the Philippines
In view of the recently held OURmindaNOW Summit and Peace Promotion Fellowship Town Hall, Vice-President and Department of Education Secretary Sara Duterte expresses her support and gratitude for the efforts on Preventing Violent Extremism through Education (PVE-E) in Mindanao. Through the Communities and Schools Leading in the Fight against Terrorism (CS-LIFT) Project implemented by Equal Access International and supported by the US Department of State Counterterrorism Bureau, in partnership with BARMM’s Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education (MBHTE) and Department of Education-Region 12, the project has reached 21 high schools and 1,094 students in both BARMM and Region 12. The OURmindaNOW Summit on April 26 presented the milestones of the 2-year CS-LIFT project implementation on PVE-E as well as recommendations for expansion. EAI Philippines also presented the Priority Agenda on PVE-E in the Basic Education. The one-day event was made possible through strong support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the European Union, co-supported by The Asia Foundation’s (TAF) USAID-funded FORWARD Bangsamoro Project, and by the Al Qalam Institute of the Ateneo de Davao University. PPF 3 Orientation Camp
This Peace Consciousness and National Teachers' Month, we recognize the roles of our teachers in the peace promotion and values-formation of our future leaders in the community. <br /><br />EAI Philippines' Communities & Schools Leading in the Fight against Terrorism (CS-LIFT) Project, now on its Phase 2 implementation, engages another batch of schools and teachers in the roll-out of the 12-session modules integrated into Grade 10 - Edukasyon sa Pagpapakatao (Values Education) subject. This is part of CS-LIFT's education-based behavior change intervention for VE (violent extremism)-vulnerable communities and schools in BARMM and Region 12.<br /><br />On July 25-29, CS-LIFT-trained Phase 1 teachers gathered for the field testing results integration and follow-up review of the toolkit used in the pilot testing from the school year 2021-2022. CS-LIFT Field Testing Results Integration & Training of Teachers
Equal Access International launched a toolkit on Preventing Violent Extremism and Countering Terrorist Ideology for Grade 10 students, starting with seven schools in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) and SOCSKSARGEN Region. This is in response to the phenomenon where over the last 6 years, an increasing number of recruitments by groups with links to the Islamic State (IS) have reportedly surfaced in educational settings, including high schools, using social media and interpersonal interactions, according to recent researchers. <br /><br />This toolkit is a key component of the project entitled “Communities and Schools Leading the Fight Against Terrorism (CS-LIFT)” which started in October 2020, in partnership with the Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education (MBHTE)-BARMM and the Department of Education - Region 12.<br /><br />Watch this video and know how our partner schools paved the way in leading towards the attainment of the project's goals of building peaceful communities and shaping resiliency among the students against the threats of violent extremism and terrorism.<br />#CSLIFT #OURmindaNOW #EqualAccessPH
